
Dumfries and County is an attractive course on the outskirts of the town. It has USGA standard greens and has played host to a number of professional events. It is in a pleasant wooded location bounded by the River Nith on the west side of the course.
Powfoot is a James Braid designed course near Annan and has all the usual challenges of links golf. Its has gorse bushes and undulating slick greens along with a wartime bomb crater to negotiate on the ninth hole.
Southerness on the Solway Firth is a real classic open links course, with views of the Cumbrian Fells to the south and Criffel Hill to the north. It was designed by McKenzie Ross in 1947 and the Scottish Amateur Championship has been played here three times.
Kirkcudbright is an undulating parkland course with a number of water features, where the ability to use the natural contours of the course is more important than power. It sits above the town and has fine views of the town and the River Dee estuary.
Newton Stewart is a picturesque parkland course which incorporates some interesting water features on the 9th and 10th holes. The course sits above the town with panoramic views to the Galloway Hills and Wigtown Bay.
Portpatrick, or Dunskey as it sometimes known, has a fantastic clifftop location above the village and has a mixture of seaside moorland and heathland holes. On a clear day from the 10th to the 13th holes it has stunning views over the Irish Sea, sometimes as far as County Down in Northern Ireland.
Stranraer is a classic James Braid layout (the last course he designed) with two testing loops of nine beginning and ending at the clubhouse with a number of holes, such as the memorable 5th hole (pictured here), being played alongside Loch Ryan.
Beautiful countryside which has timeless feel to it with the Solway Firth to the south and the Galloway Hills to the north - this is an area full of contrasts. A fantastic variety of links, parkland and moorland courses.
